Reskilling Workforce & Inspiring Millennials: Cornerstones of Project Success

The digital age is promising exciting new ways to work and create value. However, the new skills required to thrive in this new era are in short supply, forcing companies to examine their workforce capabilities. According to PwC’s latest CEO survey, 38 percent of CEOs globally say they’re extremely concerned about the availability of key skills as a threat to business growth.

PWC Stats on Workforce Reskilling

It’s a consequence of living in an era when employers estimate that a third of the desired core skill sets of most occupations will change by 2020. To meet the promise of this age while delivering projects, mid-career upskilling and transition must be a critical focus for both companies and individuals now.

The millennial generation, born between 1980 and 2000 now entering employment in vast numbers, will shape the world of work for years to come. Attracting the best of these millennial workers is critical to the future of your business. Their career aspirations, attitudes about work, and knowledge of new technologies will define the culture of the 21st century workplace.

Inspiring Millenials

Millennials matter because they are not only different from those that have gone before, they are also more numerous than any since the soon-to-retire Baby Boomer generation – millennials already form 25% of the workforce in the US and account for over half of the population in India. By 2020, millennials will form 50% of the global workforce. But although they will soon outnumber their Generation X predecessors, they remain in short supply, particularly in parts of the world where birth rates have been lower. They will also be more valuable – this generation will work to support a significantly larger older generation as life expectancy increases. Many CEOs underline that attracting and keeping younger workers is one of their biggest challenges that organizations face while involving millennials in projects.
